Boston Butt/Scholarship Fundraiser
Over the years, Macon North Rotary has come to adopt St Peter Claver Catholic School. St. Peter Claver Catholic School seeks to educate the mind and open the hearts of students from diverse backgrounds so that, in the spirit of the Gospel, they are academically prepared and service oriented. We have supported the school by providing books to students for summer reading and the classrooms in both English and Spanish. About twice a year, members go to the school and eat to the students.
Our hearts were drawn to a greater need to support the school. After realizing most students continue their education in the public school system after 8th grade, a committee thought to use the proceeds from the Boston Butt Fundraiser to help a student from St Peter Claver further there education at the nearby Catholic school, Mount de Sales Academy. Working with both schools, a student is chosen and Macon North Rotary sponsors the child through their four (4) years of high school by paying a portion of their tuition each year. After the four years, another child is chosen.
The Boston Butt Fundraising event Takes place in the Fall with ticket sales starting in October and the All-Hands-On-Deck Cook takes place just before Thanksgiving. Boston Butt tickets are counted, then the meat is purchased, prepped and cooked by members and volunteers. The fundraiser has about 98% of member participation in sales, sponsorships and hands-on shifts making it the event of the year, if you aren’t there you miss out! A special shoutout to our honorary member, Danny Outlaw, who allows us to take over his property and leads the club through the hands on process over the last several years.
Due to the growing success of the fundraiser, the club has had to put a limit on the number of tickets to be sold.
