Cole Hogan Park
Area of Focus: Environment
Macon North Rotary has chosen to adopt a small park in the Historic Ingleside Neighborhood down the road from where Cole Hogan grew up. Cole went on to become Major Cole Hogan. He served in the Special Forces Group (Airborne) and was 41 when he died while taking a phone call that put him in a fateful spot when the Pentagon was hit on September 11, 2001.
A few years later, his friends and family put up a rock a memorial plaque. Macon North Rotary member Andy Greenway was a fraternity brother of Cole Hogan and asked the club to consider adopting the memorial area. We officially adopted the green space called Cole Hogan Park and plans commenced. The Macon-Bibb Parks and Recreation Department and Macon North Rotary Club teamed up to add a bench, flag pole and a couple dozen plants to the park.
Club members and volunteers meet at the park a few times a year to spruce up the area and replace shrubbery, pine straw and flags as needed.
Cole Hogan Park is located at Overlook Circle and Overlook Drive in Macon, Georgia. Maj. Hogan is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, but now there is another spot where we can all honor a man who made the ultimate sacrifice.
